Tiny Temples

Finding our rhythm in Ubud. The temples here are tiny but intricate and full of people. The overall feeling is one of peace and calm. Even visiting the market was peaceful and enjoyable, even in the rain.  Getting very inspired here.

Lunch at Grandpa's lol and a familiar collection on the wall from Poppa. Do all new Grandpa's need binoculars and a hat? Maybe a cap and sunglasses these days hahaha

Visiting the Monkey Forest Sanctuary seems the fitting thing to do here. It's fascinating watching them but it's good to be cautious. On a ledge people sit down to get covered in the things. It's all fun and games till a child gets bit. Monkey Sanctuary, good to visit, good to tick off.

Cooking in Ubud

We start the morning with a 7.30am pick up and an trip to the local market. Skipping bekkie, we know we're in for a real treat today.

Set amongst the beautiful rice fields of Ubud, we're enjoying Cobek Bali Cooking Class, where we're about to make a bunch of stuff for lunch. Yummy.

This is the most beautiful class we're done so far, with a team of people helping and everything laid out so well. These guys are pro's.

Dishes we make here include Sauces and Peanut Satay, Sweet spicy Tempe (bean curd), Green pumpkin soup, Satay lilit (tuna on a stick), Chicken curry, Pepes Iran (tuna in banana leaves), Lawar Bali (vege salad with coconut sauce), Fried rice and Babur injin (black rice pudding with coconut milk). We don't go hungry.

It's surprising how much can be made with so little. Back home we'll make one Stir-fry or curry for tea but here there's lots of small choices. The plating, the taste and the inclusive experience was so enjoyable and just what we need.

Finishing off the day at Cretya Ubud for a swim overlooking the terraces makes for a perfect day.

Bali Green

We're in Ubud staying at the Royall JJ Ubud Resort surrounded by rice fields and it's beautiful. This is what we came for really... total bliss.

We got here in the morning and it's already getting hot. It's a bit of a hike but well worth the effort to see it from all sides.

As we headed off to visit a waterfall the road winds through villages and rice fields. Mind the pot holes lol it was a tonne of fun.

We're not worried about seeing everything this time, we'll be back here again... and again. With an empty suitcase. What an inspiring place.

Bali Blue

Honestly we haven't been far yet... literally we've seen the airport in every place.  Seminyak is bustling, and a bit expensive but we've found a few local Warung restaurants to enjoy.  Sanur is another interesting place to enjoy. I'd recommend hiring a bike for the full beach tour and lunch at a local waterfront joint. And Nusa Dua we've dined at and will come back to.

First impressions of Bali are expected. I think its a place to be enjoyed more every year if we can. We're currently hanging out in Canggu... enjoying time in a wee villa down a narrow lane. Looking forward to hitting the slopes of Ubud and beyond.

Got the scooter bug now, so much fun.  Till we hit rush hour traffic lol. Got sandwiched between 2 concrete trucks, up on the curb... gotta keep moving. Finns Beach club was beautiful... if only we're 30 years younger hahaha... anyways... going to Potato Head club next. Really loving it here.

Canggu, Bali

Impressions of Canggu... it's full of expats and pilates, coffee shops and development. As tourists we feel safe here and anonymous. The traffics crazy, the streets too narrow but it's heaving with life. Gets us thinking of returning as often as we can.

The entrance to Potato Head Beach Club... very striking architecture. The club was low key chill, totally different vibe to Finns and right on the beach. Bali does this well.

Bali begins...

We've just arrived in Bali... the start of an epic 3 month South East Asian experience... finding calm in Kuta Beach.  Stepping off the plane onto sand...

Soothed in a dripping sea
Over waves, a generous lick
Of wine
Drops
From the vat
Allowing calm
To wash over
The bumps

Slipping into holiday mode... Kuta has been a great start.

On first impression we love it here. It seems more laid back than I was expecting, but then compared to India that's not hard to imagine. It's interesting, food is great and pretty cheap, drinks are good. I think I'm finally discovering my true art.  Off to sight see and find some more.

Taking off a mask and finding face in this creative and dynamic space.  Footsteps from the runway has me itching to unwind and discover.
