We drove down from Slovenia yesterday, weaving our way through the countryside and into Croatia, right through the centre of Istria… the heart shaped region stretching to the coast. It’s a nice drive, alongside small farms and pocket sized vineyards. You get a feeling of self sufficiency here, and it’s starting to feel a little Mediterranean, from what I imagine. As always, we have a choice of places we can visit, there’s only so much you can see in a day. We opt for a stroll around Pula, with its massive Roman Amphitheater, and a stay over in Rovinj. Both are amazing.
Town of Rovinj… still an active fishing port
Steps into the sea
Lots of colour amongst the grey
Quiet alleyways awaiting summer punters
Steps and paths made of limestone marble
The Amphitheater at Pula is stunning. If you want a quiet look around without the crowds, arrive in winter or early spring. Less people, but less things open as well.
